Five players, one future: How we're building Video.js v10
Blog post from Mux
Video.js is undergoing a significant transformation as engineers from Media Chrome, Plyr, Vidstack, and Mux Player join forces to develop Video.js v10 from the ground up. This new version aims to overcome the limitations of its predecessors by implementing real modularity, framework-native architecture, and a customizable user interface, thus ensuring that the video player remains relevant and compatible with evolving web standards. The project, driven by a small team with input from the community, seeks to balance performance, usability, and design, with the beta release targeted for early March 2026 and general availability expected by mid-2026. While current users of existing players can continue without immediate changes, they are encouraged to provide feedback and contribute to the development process, with the promise of integration benefits and enhancements in the future.
