The company initially started using Firebase three years ago when they were just getting started, but as their needs evolved, they encountered several challenges such as messy coding and architecture, limited querying capabilities, no local or staging environment, data control and backup issues, performance problems, and poor support. After migrating to MongoDB, they found a more mature and feature-rich environment that allows them to fetch specific data using complex queries, run the database locally, and provide enhanced monitoring and backup services, ultimately enabling them to scale their business and enhance their product development efforts.
