Manulife, one of the largest life insurance companies in the world, has ditched its traditional relational database in favor of MongoDB to improve digital transformation and better connect with customers in real-time. The company's existing data infrastructure was becoming a drag on innovation, but MongoDB offered a flexible data model, scalability, enterprise-readiness, and cost-effectiveness. Manulife used MongoDB for various projects, including the development of an app that encourages users to meet fitness goals, a sales assistance app, policy life cycle management, and claims processing. The company is now expanding its use of NoSQL databases with MongoDB identified as the go-to solution, reflecting its recognition as an internal standard and strategic partner for NoSQL development.
