MongoDB has announced the availability of its software with bundled storage configurations on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Marketplace, which significantly boosts performance and ease of use. The new MongoDB AMI's include high-performance storage configurations that leverage Amazon's Provisioned IOPS storage volumes, providing radically improved performance for large datasets. The configurations offer up to 10x-40x higher out-of-memory throughput than non-pIOPS based setups, with separate volumes for data, journal, and logs, pre-tuned filesystem and OS configuration, and pre-installed software and repositories. This move is expected to facilitate MongoDB adoption in the cloud, where a significant percentage of applications are already deployed, and improve performance on AWS.
