MongoDB hosted its first public sector hackathon, bringing together developers from across the UK to create innovative applications using open source technology. The event was supported by the Government Digital Service and featured over 75 participants who worked on various projects, including an incident management system for managing small-scale local incidents, a web interface providing access to historical and live hydrology data, and visualisation of World War One war diary data. The hackathon showcased the flexibility and versatility of MongoDB's document model, enabling quick and iterative development, and highlighted its use in geospatial features and aggregation framework. The event also featured special mentions for innovative apps such as Air Pollution Alerts and Maps from Nothing, which demonstrated creative uses of open data.
