This year, MongoDB welcomed 34 university students to its intern program in Engineering and Marketing. Calvin Chan, a rising senior at UCLA, is one of them. He's working on prototyping a JavaScript engine to replace V8 in query operations, which aims to optimize the performance and efficiency of user-defined functions. Calvin chose to intern at MongoDB because he wanted to experience doing technical work, unlike his previous user-facing product-focused internships. He enjoys working in the heart of New York City, being close to a big window with a view of the Theater district, and appreciates the scooters outside the office. A typical day for him involves working from 10:00 AM to 12:15 PM, grabbing lunch, and then continuing work until around 6:45 PM. Calvin loves MongoDB's webscale approach and enjoys using Foursquare during his free time. If interested in a career at MongoDB, check out the careers page or email
