The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services has announced a secure open source FHIR implementation using JavaScript, Node.js, and MongoDB as part of the "Secure API Server Showdown" challenge. The winning team, Asymmetrik, developed a reference implementation that meets security technical requirements specified in the Argonaut Data Query Implementation Guide Version 1.0.0. This implementation is now available for industry developers to build upon. MongoDB Atlas makes it easy to manage data of healthcare and FHIR applications, providing a fully-managed cloud database with high compliance standards, including HIPAA readiness and GDPR compliance. The Atlas architecture allows users to create a cloud account, deploy a FHIR application server and dashboard, and connect the cluster with the FHIR server using always-on TLS and authentication.
