I was laid off from my 30-year-old job at Sun Microsystems/Oracle, a technical role that afforded me exposure to partners and customers, after being let go with many colleagues. I wondered if I was still relevant or hirable as a "tech industry Silverback" at age 59. I applied to MongoDB, which was an exciting opportunity with travel and state-of-the-art tech, and landed the job as a Senior Consulting Engineer in November 2017. In this role, I work on-site with customers to help them become more successful with MongoDB, using my technical skills and best practices. The job requires fast learning, organizational, and prioritization skills, and has been an adjustment but is one of the best jobs I've ever had.
