MongoDB's Green Team is an employee-led affinity group focused on sustainability and environmental responsibility, initiated in April 2020 to address the climate crisis through business actions. The team operates under two main work streams: "Community," which educates employees on sustainability through webinars, workshops, and projects like a plant-based cookbook, and "Collaboration," which focuses on calculating and reducing the company's carbon footprint in partnership with Watershed. With over 250 global members and strong executive support, the Green Team aims to integrate sustainability into all aspects of MongoDB's operations, reflecting an organizational commitment to positive environmental impact. Meanwhile, MongoDB is preparing for a leadership transition with Chirantan “CJ” Desai set to become the new CEO in November 2025, as the current CEO, Dev Ittycheria, plans to retire. CJ Desai brings extensive experience from ServiceNow and Cloudflare, and his appointment is part of a broader strategy to guide MongoDB through its next phase of growth, leveraging its strengths in AI and data-intensive applications.
