Best practices for Developer Relations Programs to measure success of an API platform
Blog post from Moesif
Developer relations programs aim to enable third-party developers to create valuable integrations and experiences using a platform, yet determining the right success metrics can be challenging. Common marketing metrics like page views and sign-ups are often inadequate as they may not reflect genuine engagement or value creation. Instead, metrics such as Weekly Active Tokens (WAT) and Time to First Hello World (TTFHW) are more effective, as they measure actual platform usage and the speed at which developers can start using the platform, respectively. Developer relations can be aligned with various company departments, including marketing, engineering, and product, but they are often most effective when integrated with product teams. This alignment can better support the creation of a product that developers find useful and engaging, ensuring DevRel teams are focused on enhancing the developer experience and fostering deeper community engagement.
