How To Fix CrewAI Memory In Production With Mem0
Blog post from Mem0
CrewAI provides built-in short-term, long-term, entity, and contextual memory backed largely by local ChromaDB, SQLite, or newer LanceDB storage, making it convenient for prototyping but potentially problematic in production due to machine-bound persistence, lack of native per-user isolation, retrieval of low-value context, configuration complexity, and possible concurrent-write failures. The proposed solution is to use Mem0 as an external provider for CrewAI’s short-term and entity memory while retaining CrewAI’s long-term task-outcome memory and automatic contextual orchestration. Mem0 Cloud offers a managed API-based option, while Mem0 OSS supports self-hosted deployments using a chosen vector database, LLM, and embedding model. Its configuration supports user, organization, project, and run scoping, along with filtering, inference-based extraction, and custom categories, allowing memories to persist across deployments, remain separated among users and environments, and prioritize durable facts such as preferences or restrictions over conversational filler.
