After a three-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Tour de Tohoku 2022 took place on September 18th, starting and finishing at Seihoku Park in Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture. As a Gold Partner, Mapbox Japan played a significant role in enhancing the event with its innovative real-time map that provided live location data, fixed-point footage, and in-car camera views, which captivated riders and spectators. The event, aimed at supporting recovery efforts from the Great East Japan Earthquake, began with a moment of silence and featured 100km and 65km cycling routes through the picturesque Tohoku region. Participants and spectators celebrated the return of the beloved event, enjoying locally-sourced food and the welcoming atmosphere provided by supportive staff and volunteers. Mapbox riders also took part, completing their races and sharing positive experiences, contributing to a heartwarming finish that rekindled the community spirit. The event's successful return has sparked anticipation for next year's edition, highlighting its importance in supporting the region's recovery and fostering camaraderie among participants.
