Summary

At BUILD with Mapbox 2026, CEO Peter Sirota introduced new location-infrastructure services and developer tools intended to provide AI applications and autonomous agents with real-world spatial context. Updates include an agentic mapping engine that uses telemetry, imagery, sensors, and user feedback from more than 45,000 applications to continuously refresh Mapbox’s Live Map; the public-preview Places API with persistent Place IDs, activity signals, and detailed location attributes; and Traffic 2.0, an AI-based traffic engine offering rapid updates, maneuver-level congestion modeling, and forecasts up to 2.5 hours ahead. Mapbox also announced natural-language search capabilities in its Search Box API, AI Mode for prompt-based restyling of geographically grounded static maps, and SDK toolkits that let agents control mapping and navigation functions. Additional integrations extend Mapbox tools to Notion Agents and Figma, while a new command-line interface supports terminal-based management and deployment for developers and coding agents. Finally, Demo Access enables users with verified email addresses to obtain test tokens without first adding payment information, reducing barriers to prototyping and evaluation.
