HD Roads bring lane-level detail to Mapbox Standard

Mapbox has introduced HD Roads in its Mapbox Standard Style basemap, adding lane-level road details such as lane boundaries, turn arrows, stop lines, pedestrian crossings, and 3D bridges, tunnels, elevated roads, and overpasses at high zoom levels. Designed around “symbolic realism,” the feature aims to make maps more closely reflect real-world road structure while remaining legible, reducing developers’ need for custom road geometry that can become outdated as networks change. Mapbox says the added context can support real estate, travel, fitness, urban exploration, drone, autonomous-routing, and AI applications by clarifying street access, crossings, intersections, and vertical infrastructure. HD Roads is available in 71 major cities across 29 countries and can be enabled in Mapbox Standard by upgrading to Maps SDK v11.30.1 for iOS or Android or Mapbox GL JS v3.30 and activating the showHdRoads setting. Mapbox also offers 3D Lanes, a turn-by-turn navigation feature built on HD Roads, in limited private preview through its Navigation SDK.
