Albers projection displays US election maps more precisely
Blog post from Mapbox
Mapbox has introduced public-preview support for the Albers projection in its iOS and Android Maps SDKs, aligning mobile map rendering with Mapbox GL JS on the web. Unlike the commonly used Web Mercator projection, which preserves local shapes but greatly enlarges areas farther from the equator, Albers better preserves relative area and minimizes distortion across the contiguous United States. This makes it particularly useful for choropleth election maps, where exaggerated northern state sizes can influence how viewers interpret regional polling results. Albers is already a standard projection for US national thematic maps and can be combined with Mapbox Boundaries to accurately shade administrative, legislative, and statistical geographic areas. Developers can enable it through Mapbox Studio or by specifying an Albers projection in a runtime style JSON, while web support is generally available and mobile support remains in public preview.
