What Is Email Feedback Loop and Why Is It Important?
Blog post from Mailtrap
Email feedback loops are services provided by mailbox providers that notify eligible high-volume senders or email service providers when recipients mark messages as spam, allowing them to identify complaint trends, suppress affected addresses, and protect domain and IP reputation. Reporting differs by provider: Yahoo and many others send Abuse Reporting Format reports that may include the original message and recipient details, while Gmail provides aggregate complaint data through Postmaster Tools using a Feedback-ID header. Common requirements include domain or IP ownership or administration, designated abuse or postmaster reporting addresses, properly configured SPF, DKIM, and reverse DNS records, and a good sender reputation. The discussion also describes how Mailtrap integrates major feedback loops, automatically adds complainers, bounces, and unsubscribes to suppression lists, and provides analytics and alerts intended to help customers monitor deliverability and reduce future spam complaints.
