Inside Chats: How Lovable's Agents Work Together
Blog post from Lovable
Lovable’s Chats feature is built on an agent architecture that separates durable event history, model context construction, and agent execution scheduling to coordinate conversations and project work at scale. Each agent uses an immutable, append-only “trajectory” modeled on Git, enabling inexpensive forks of shared history without merging independent agent streams, while prompts are dynamically projected from that history and can use asynchronous summaries to manage context. Live response streaming is handled through temporary partial updates that are replaced by final persisted events, and each agent maintains both an inbox for incoming messages and a private trajectory recording what it actually processed. The Agent Control Plane coordinates agents through a common pattern of writing durable messages to inboxes and issuing activations that wake agents, allowing subagents, project builders, scheduled work, and progress updates to operate without direct connections or shared execution state. This design also lets agents suspend and resume across deployments or failures, with durable work preserved in trajectories and project repositories. In Chats, a workspace-level conversational agent sends self-contained instructions to one or more project-building agents and receives their progress and results through the same inbox-based messaging system, allowing users to turn discussions into parallel app changes.
