Announcing Service Map: Troubleshoot With Context and Confidence

Logz.io has introduced Service Map, a new feature in their Open 360 platform that provides a comprehensive visualization of data flow, dependencies, and performance metrics within microservices architectures to aid in troubleshooting production issues. By sending trace data to Logz.io, Service Map automatically detects and maps services and their interconnections, offering a unified view of distributed systems and enabling engineers to understand system behavior and pinpoint root causes during incident investigations. To utilize Service Map, users must first install the Telemetry Collector to gather logs, metrics, and traces, after which the Service Map can be accessed through the Traces interface. The feature highlights services with significant metrics such as latency, error rates, and request rates, allowing for a detailed analysis over time and facilitating quick root cause analysis through a ‘Drilldown’ option. Service Overview complements this by offering crucial performance metrics and correlated log and trace data, thus helping reduce Mean Time to Recovery (MTTR) for production issues.
