Using altitude maps to become a more data-oriented PM
Blog post from LogRocket
An altitude map is a strategic tool for product managers to visualize and understand the relationships between various product metrics, allowing for a more data-driven approach to decision-making. It consists of three main components: the supervisor's scorecard, which highlights key metrics that the supervisor wants to influence; the product area's scorecard, which focuses on metrics showcasing the performance of the product area; and the solutions' scorecards, which track the performance of specific features or sets of features. By mapping out these metrics, product managers can identify which solutions drive desired outcomes and how they contribute to both product and business goals. This tool not only aids in assessing the health of solutions and determining next steps but also provides clarity and transparency across teams, fostering collaboration and troubleshooting. Crafting an altitude map enables product managers to focus on relevant data and make informed decisions, ultimately enhancing product performance and business impact.
