Understanding when and how to prioritize React UI updates

React v18 introduced two new Hooks, useTransition() and useDeferredValue(), to enhance client-side UI update prioritization, particularly useful for managing sluggish user interactions in complex applications. The useTransition() Hook allows developers to designate certain UI updates as high priority, ensuring smoother performance by treating these updates as non-blocking transitions. This is particularly beneficial in scenarios like search functions with large data sets, where keystroke responsiveness is prioritized over rendering delays. Conversely, the useDeferredValue() Hook defers state updates, maintaining quick input responsiveness while delaying less critical updates, similar to debouncing techniques. While both Hooks address similar issues, they should not be used together, and prioritizing UI updates should be a last resort after applying best practices and efficient coding strategies in React applications.
