Developer experience (DX) has become a focal point in the use of JavaScript frameworks, which offer abstractions and tools to expedite development but often result in increased complexity, slower load times, and diminished user experience (UX). While frameworks have been the traditional method to enhance DX, this approach has led to issues like cognitive dissonance and tool overload, creating a cycle of complexity that detracts from the initial benefits. An alternative, termed web interoperability, suggests leveraging native web APIs to promote a DX founded on reliability, predictability, and stability, thereby reducing dependence on third-party tools and frameworks. This shift is supported by advancements in browser interoperability, which have minimized the need for frameworks to address browser inconsistencies. Though frameworks still offer advantages in areas like reactivity and component ecosystems, the evolving web ecosystem is fostering a platform-first approach where native solutions can gradually replace their roles, suggesting a pathway to alleviate the cognitive and technical burdens of the current DX paradigm.
