Neumorphic design: What it is and how to use it effectively
Blog post from LogRocket
Neumorphism is a design trend that emerged around 2019, blending elements of skeuomorphism and flat design to create interfaces that are both realistic and minimalist. By using monochromatic color palettes, subtle shadows, highlights, and gradients, neumorphism adds depth and visual interest without overwhelming users. Its UI components, such as buttons and dropdowns, appear to "rise" or "sink" into the background, providing a sense of hierarchy. However, the trend faces challenges with accessibility and usability due to its low-contrast designs, which can make interactive elements difficult to distinguish for users with visual impairments. To address these issues, designers are encouraged to ensure compliance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and incorporate strategic visual cues. Neumorphism offers a creative and modern approach to UI design, but its adoption requires careful consideration of its potential drawbacks and alignment with user needs and brand identity.
