.eth.link vs .eth.limo: Comparing alternatives for .eth domain resolution
Blog post from LogRocket
The Ethereum Name Service (ENS) offers a decentralized solution to map human-readable names to Ethereum addresses, similar to how DNS maps names to IP addresses. ENS operates using a registry and resolvers, allowing it to support both Ethereum (.eth) and traditional DNS domains. Two gateways, eth.link and eth.limo, provide different methods of accessing ENS domains. Eth.link, managed by Cloudflare, is centralized but reliable due to its established infrastructure, while eth.limo is a decentralized solution powered by a DAO, prioritizing user privacy and community governance but still in its early development phase. Eth.link's centralization raises concerns about transparency and control, whereas eth.limo focuses on decentralization, aiming to build a community-run CDN. Although eth.limo is faster in tests and aligns closely with Ethereum's principles, it is less mature than eth.link. Users currently have the option to use both services, potentially transitioning to eth.limo as it stabilizes, highlighting the importance of choice in the shift towards decentralized applications.
