The CSS vertical-align property is used to set the vertical alignment of inline elements or elements displayed as inline-block, as well as table-cell elements, with options to align elements to the baseline, top, bottom, middle, text-top, text-bottom, sub, super, or using specific length and percentage values. By default, the baseline alignment aligns elements to the baseline of the parent element, while other keyword values provide different positioning relative to the tallest or longest elements in a line or the parent element's baseline. Length and percentage values allow for precise vertical positioning above or below the baseline, with positive values aligning elements above and negative values aligning them below. Global values such as 'initial' and 'inherit' can set the alignment to its default or inherit the parent element's value, respectively.
