A guide to the unFIX model
Blog post from LogRocket
unFIX is an innovative organizational design model created by Jurgen Appelo, aimed at fostering continuous innovation and enhancing human experience by enabling flexible and adaptive structures that focus on the entire value stream rather than just isolated functions. Unlike traditional Agile frameworks, unFIX is not limited to software development and instead draws inspiration from various sources such as the Spotify engineering culture, dynamic reteaming, and team topologies, to create a comprehensive and collaborative environment. It organizes individuals around a value stream or product experience, assembling diverse teams into a base that can operate autonomously while supported by various specialized crews responsible for governance, facilitation, experience, capability, partnership, and platform services. The model encourages collaboration, transparency, and adaptability, allowing product managers to control the entire product experience and align all stakeholders towards common goals. By involving everyone in the design process and allowing for regular reassessment and iteration, unFIX helps organizations remain agile and responsive to changing needs and circumstances, ultimately accelerating value creation and improving product management effectiveness.
