AWS Lambda Web Functions Are Here. Test Them Locally with LocalStack.
Blog post from LocalStack
AWS Lambda Web Functions introduce a native HTTP-based model for running Node.js web applications on Lambda, allowing developers to use familiar frameworks such as Express or Hono without event adapters or Lambda-specific code. The service supports HTTP streaming, managed HTTPS endpoints, active CPU-based billing that avoids charging for idle I/O wait time, concurrent requests within warm execution environments, and optional multi-region routing to reduce latency. LocalStack now supports these functions from launch, enabling developers to run and hot-reload applications locally or on Kubernetes, deploy them with CloudFormation, and test integrations with emulated AWS services including S3, DynamoDB, CloudFront, IAM, CloudWatch, and multi-region endpoints. The integration is intended to help teams test serverless web apps, AI endpoints, SSR applications, APIs, microservices, and webhooks more thoroughly before deployment, and is available in LocalStack for AWS 2026.10.0 on Hobby plans and above.
