Isabel Evans, a seasoned test practitioner with over 30 years of experience, conducted research on human factors in test automation, exploring the experiences of testers with their test tools. Her study found that usability, quality, and tool maintenance were significant challenges for testers, often leading to emotional responses due to the impact of these tools on people's lives. Isabel developed a design framework for tools designers, focusing on people-centric approaches, which considers four aspects: the tester, organizational culture, goals, and activities. Her research will move forward by collecting meta-studies and conducting case studies on bug and defect management as an activity, aiming to understand who is testing and how tools can be designed to support them better.
