Serverless Postgres is now generally available, offering a fully managed, fault-tolerant, and scalable Postgres database service optimized for large-scale and AI applications. Since its public preview, over 50,000 databases have been created for diverse use cases, and with a single API call, databases can scale to zero when idle and will soon auto-scale with demand. The service introduces larger instance types, simplified pricing by including written data and outbound data transfer at no extra cost, and an updated free tier. Billing will be on a per-second basis, with prices ranging from $0.04/hour to $1.28/hour. Serverless Postgres supports various Postgres extensions and offers global availability, high-availability, and compatibility with Postgres clients. Future improvements include autoscaling based on workload, tighter service integration, and new regional availability. The service aims to reduce operational overhead while facilitating seamless development and production transitions.
