The release also eliminates the need for database-backed deployments by enabling KongCustomEntity, allowing the definition and management of custom entities directly through Kong's configuration endpoint. Additionally, this version supports the v1 API for GRPCRoute, making it generally available and removing the requirement for experimental Gateway API CRDs, along with the introduction of the URLRewrite filter for vendor-independent URL manipulation.
