What Is Agentic Operations and Why Ops Teams Are Adopting It
Blog post from Komodor
Agentic operations uses AI agents to investigate, decide, and potentially act on production-system tasks within team-defined permissions, guardrails, approvals, and detailed audit records, distinguishing it from chat assistants, traditional AIOps, and unchecked autonomy. The approach is presented as a response to rising operational workloads and incidents associated with faster AI-assisted software delivery, though successful production adoption depends less on the underlying model than on surrounding infrastructure such as identity management, evaluation, cost controls, shared context, persistent runtime, and data governance. Common initial use cases include incident investigation, alert deduplication, cloud and Kubernetes cost optimization, and release-risk assessment. Teams are encouraged to adopt agents gradually, beginning with read-only analysis, progressing to pull-request generation and per-action approval, and reserving autonomous actions for low-risk, reversible tasks. SRE and platform engineers remain responsible for defining standards, ownership, permissions, escalation paths, and quality testing, while organizations can run internally built agents or preconfigured workflows under a common governance layer.
