Scanning AI Assets: Catching What SCA and SAST Might Miss
Blog post from JFrog
Conventional AppSec tools such as SCA, SAST, and secret scanners may overlook AI assets including agent skills, plugins, and Agent Package Manager packages because these assets can contain natural-language instructions and hidden intent rather than conventional code or dependencies. The post identifies prompt injection, concealed instructions, obfuscated payloads, and credential exfiltration as key risks, noting research in 2026 that found techniques capable of evading static scanners while allowing malicious skills to function in coding agents. It argues that effective protection requires both deterministic code and dependency scanning and semantic analysis of instructions, followed by policy-driven actions such as blocking malicious assets, reviewing suspicious ones, and enforcing controls whenever an agent uses an asset rather than only at installation. JFrog AI Security is presented as a platform that combines JFrog Xray’s supply-chain scanning with AI-powered intent analysis, classifies assets by risk, supports version-specific approvals and expiring waivers, and uses JFrog Agent Guard to enforce policies at the point of use across skills, plugins, and APM packages.
