One year after launching a joint initiative with Google to offer JFrog Artifactory Cloud on Google Cloud Platform for free to selected open source projects, numerous projects have benefited, including the Scientific Open Access Repository of Portugal (RCAAP). As part of the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology's branch, RCAAP aims to promote open access to Portuguese scientific research. They needed a reliable platform to host Maven packages and dependencies for community accessibility, and after comparing JFrog Artifactory, Sonatype Nexus, and Apache Archiva, they chose JFrog Artifactory for its suitability in meeting their requirements. RCAAP's technology, based on Java and using Apache Maven for dependency management, required a centralized, accessible repository for their code libraries, which JFrog Artifactory now provides, making these resources available to the public. This initiative allows RCAAP to focus on serving the community without worrying about repository management costs, and other open source projects are encouraged to apply for free hosting as well.
