Your Next Action Is Two Dots Away - The JetBrains Blog
Blog post from JetBrains
IntelliJ IDEA’s command completion feature provides a context-aware way to access IDE actions directly from the editor by typing two dots, reducing the need to remember shortcuts, search menus, or switch tools. In IntelliJ IDEA 2026.3 EAP, it adds faster access to debugger logpoints, including suggestions to replace temporary print statements, and enables in-context AI actions such as explaining code, generating documentation, and refactoring selected elements with relevant file and caret information automatically supplied. The update also unifies the interface for command completion, postfix completion, and live templates through improved filtering and previews, while extending support to binary files, decompiled code, properties files, Spring workflows, and other structured environments. Intended as a discoverable complement to keyboard shortcuts, the feature analyzes code context, scope, inspections, and available actions to suggest relevant next steps in Java, Kotlin, and Scala files.
