JetBrains has announced plans to discontinue "Code With Me," a feature within their IDEs that facilitated real-time collaborative coding and pair programming. The decision comes after analyzing the shift in demand for collaboration tools post-pandemic and the ongoing engineering investment needed to maintain the feature alongside the evolving IntelliJ Platform. The 2026.1 release will be the last to officially support Code With Me, and it will be available as a separate plugin until Q1 2027, after which public relay infrastructure will be deactivated. Existing users can continue utilizing the plugin on supported IDE versions and will receive security updates during a transition period. JetBrains encourages users to explore alternative collaboration tools or their enhanced remote development features, which remain a strategic focus. The company assures continued support for existing contracts and offers assistance to users during this transition.
