Remote Development in 2026.3: What’s New? - The JetBrains Blog
Blog post from JetBrains
JetBrains IDEs 2026.3 expands remote development by integrating remote session setup, management, and reconnection directly into the IDE, reducing reliance on JetBrains Gateway or Toolbox as separate entry points. Users can open recent remote projects from the Home screen, establish SSH connections through a two-step workflow, automatically install or update remote backends, and use remote home-directory paths with familiar tilde syntax. The release also introduces native OpenSSH support, enabling broader authentication and feature compatibility while consolidating connections from OpenSSH configurations, IDE settings, Toolbox, and recent history; OpenSSH is expected to become the default implementation in future releases. During remote backend startup, the IDE now enters Light Mode immediately, allowing users on supported Linux hosts to browse, edit, search, and use terminals before transitioning seamlessly to full Smart Mode without losing work.
