Next Edit Suggestions: Now Generally Available | The JetBrains AI Blog
Blog post from JetBrains
JetBrains has introduced the Next Edit Suggestions (NES) feature across all its IDEs for AI Pro, AI Ultimate, and AI Enterprise subscribers, enhancing the code editing experience by proposing edits beyond immediate code completion. Unlike traditional AI code completion, NES can suggest modifications to existing code, appearing in a non-intrusive way in the editor, and is designed to work efficiently without consuming the user's AI quota. The feature relies on a custom AI model that leverages cloud GPU infrastructure to maintain low latency, integrating with JetBrains' IDE actions to provide reliable code insights. While NES complements rather than replaces existing code completion tools, it is currently unavailable to AI Free license holders, though efforts are underway to expand its availability. To streamline user experience, JetBrains is also simplifying the settings for AI code completion and NES, allowing users to customize their preferences from a single screen. The development team is actively working on further improvements to NES, such as smarter suggestions and additional IDE actions, and expresses gratitude to users who participated in the feature's beta testing phase.
