Ktor 3.6.0 introduces experimental typed authentication, including role-based access, anonymous-user support, and specialized OpenID Connect integration with typed providers, sessions, browser login, and token refresh capabilities. The release also adds experimental HTTP/3 over QUIC for the Netty engine, alongside support for serving h2c and TLS-enabled HTTP/2 on separate connectors. Routing and request handling gain support for Kotlin UUID, byte, and unsigned parameter types, nullable receive operations, and a new partial HTML response function. Client-side improvements include more control over ContentNegotiation Accept-header merging and a Kotlin Multiplatform engine-defaults dependency that automatically selects suitable HTTP engines across targets, with cache storage now using kotlinx-io paths. Additional updates cover WebRTC for JVM, asynchronous DNS for CIO, OpenAPI tag descriptions, cookie parsing, and JavaScript fetch overrides.
