Join the Kotlin Ecosystem Mentorship Program | The Kotlin Blog
Blog post from JetBrains
The Kotlin Foundation has introduced the Kotlin Ecosystem Mentorship Program, designed to pair experienced open-source maintainers with new contributors to facilitate their first meaningful contributions to Kotlin projects. This initiative aims to address challenges faced by new contributors, such as understanding project structures and gaining confidence, while also combating the influx of low-quality contributions prompted by AI advancements. The program, which will initially involve about 10 mentor-mentee pairs from mid-February to early April, seeks to guide participants through the contribution process, culminating in at least one successful project contribution per pair. Participants will receive Kotlin-branded merchandise, and one lucky pair will win a trip to KotlinConf 2026. The program aspires to boost the open-source ecosystem by fostering new regular contributors who continue to support projects beyond the mentorship.
