Summary

JetBrains has released a Release Candidate for Java and Kotlin by IntelliJ IDEA, an LSP-based extension that brings IntelliJ IDEA’s project-aware Java and Kotlin capabilities to VS Code, Cursor, and other compatible editors. Following a public preview and several intermediate builds, the extension has surpassed 20,000 downloads and incorporates feedback from early adopters as well as internal testing on large IntelliJ-based repositories. It offers smart completion, navigation, inspections, quick-fixes, code analysis, project-wide refactorings, DAP-based debugging, Maven, Gradle, and Bazel support, test execution, and Spring tooling interoperability. In Cursor, its language server can also support coding agents with semantic search, navigation, and analysis. The RC is the last Early Access Program build and is free to use for 30 days; after the stable 1.0 release, users will receive a 30-day trial before an IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate subscription is required.
