Databao, a new tool from JetBrains, aims to enhance AI-assisted analytics by providing reliable semantic context for data teams, allowing business users to engage with data in plain language while maintaining accuracy and control. The platform offers a context engine for extracting schema and metadata, which ensures consistent and reusable business logic, and a data agent available as an open-source Python SDK for querying, cleaning, and visualizing data. Databao is designed to grow with organizational needs, avoiding vendor lock-in and supporting diverse production environments. The initiative recently achieved a first-place ranking in the DBT track of the SPIDER 2.0 Text-to-SQL benchmark and joined the Open Semantic Interchange (OSI) to help establish a shared standard for semantic models. JetBrains invites data teams to collaborate on building a proof of concept to further refine Databao's capabilities and usability.
