Discontinuing Swift Language IDE Support in the Kotlin Multiplatform Plugin - The JetBrains Blog
Blog post from JetBrains
Beginning with IntelliJ IDEA 2026.3 and Android Studio Rabbit 2 | 2026.2.2, JetBrains will discontinue Swift language IDE support in the Kotlin Multiplatform plugin, removing Swift editing, syntax highlighting, and navigation between Swift and Kotlin code. iOS application execution, Kotlin debugging on iOS, Kotlin/Native capabilities such as Swift Export, and Swift package imports will remain supported. The company cited declining adoption, developer preference for Xcode when working with Swift, and the substantial maintenance required to keep inherited AppCode-based tooling compatible with evolving Swift, Xcode, and IntelliJ Platform releases. Existing Swift functionality will remain in older, unsupported versions, while JetBrains plans to focus future investment on Kotlin tooling and the broader Kotlin Multiplatform iOS development experience rather than replacing the retired features.
