100 Exercises To Learn Rust, Updated | RustRover
Blog post from JetBrains
JetBrains has updated its free RustRover-based adaptation of Mainmatter’s “100 Exercises to Learn Rust,” originally created by Rust author and consultant Luca Palmieri, offering an exercise-driven course for developers already familiar with another programming language. Across eight chapters, learners build a ticket management system while covering core Rust topics including ownership, borrowing, traits, error handling, collections, lifetimes, concurrency, and asynchronous programming, culminating in an open-ended challenge to create an asynchronous REST API. The update adds a redesigned introduction, an expanded FAQ, visible test assertions, a hands-on comparison of Cargo development and release overflow behavior, and a final project that lets learners select dependencies and verify API behavior through HTTP requests. Learners may also begin with the final challenge to identify knowledge gaps, while the course recommends using built-in AI chat for explanations and compiler-error guidance rather than generated code, with code completion disabled to preserve the learning experience. The course requires no manual setup, runs directly in RustRover with tests included, and is open source, while RustRover is free for non-commercial use.
