Unifying Plugins across Ionic and OutSystems

Ionic's merger with OutSystems has led to an initiative aimed at integrating their plugin ecosystems to benefit both OutSystems' low-code platform and Ionic's open-source community. This effort involves unifying similar plugins from both ecosystems, such as Filesystem, and incorporating OutSystems-exclusive plugins like Barcode Scanner into the Capacitor framework. The development of a unified plugin architecture allows for the reuse of native libraries across Capacitor, Cordova, and other mobile platforms, enhancing modularity and encouraging open-source contributions. The Geolocation plugin is the first to adopt this model, with more to follow. This restructuring does not affect current Capacitor plugin development and usage but aims to introduce new features and improvements over time. Users can continue using existing plugins without disruption, while developers are invited to contribute to the evolving ecosystem.
