The update will introduce Cordova Optionality, allowing apps to exclude the Cordova compatibility layer, alongside iOS modernization that converts remaining Objective-C code to Swift and ends XCFramework distribution, requiring plugin authors to use migration tooling. Developers are urged to migrate from CocoaPods to Swift Package Manager before CocoaPods trunk becomes read-only on December 2, 2026, as plugin-native dependencies may otherwise stop receiving updates. Capacitor is also exploring an MCP server and related documentation, API annotations, and tooling intended to help AI agents access accurate project information rather than relying on potentially incorrect assumptions.
