Keeping Capacitor’s Backlog Healthy
Blog post from Ionic
The Capacitor project is undergoing a significant backlog cleanup to address accumulated technical debt and improve its open-source management practices. Due to a lack of consistent attention to triage and follow-through, many GitHub Issues and Pull Requests across various repositories have remained unresolved, leading to inefficiencies and the perception that Capacitor is not actively maintained. To reset expectations and maintain a healthy backlog, the core team is implementing a comprehensive cleanup process, establishing clear rules for closing outdated or inactive issues, and investing in automation to streamline community contributions. This cleanup is aimed at enhancing focus on current development and aligning with the modern Capacitor framework, ensuring that contributions remain impactful. The community has been invited to review and update any relevant issues before the cleanup begins on February 23, 2026. The Capacitor team expresses gratitude to its community for their support and aims to foster an environment where contributions continue to have a significant impact.
