Masahiko Sakakibara, an Ionic Developer Expert and Japanese documentation contributor, has released version 1.0.0 of @rdlabo/ionic-theme-ios27, a theme that brings iOS 27-inspired Liquid Glass styling, motion, light and dark modes, and updated component shapes to Ionic applications without requiring developers to replace familiar Ionic markup. Compatible with Ionic 8.8.1 and later and Ionic 9 across Angular, React, and Vue, the theme is distributed separately from Ionic Framework so teams can adopt new visual designs independently of framework upgrades, while retaining customization through CSS variables, Sass, and selective styles. Development of the theme prompted Ionic to expand Shadow DOM styling APIs through new Shadow Parts and CSS custom properties, supporting broader community theming efforts. The release also includes optional interaction effects such as spring animations and animated tab indicators that honor reduced-motion preferences, alongside an experimental Capacitor iOS Native UI Shell that renders supported fixed controls like tab bars and toolbar buttons as synchronized native UIKit elements while preserving WebView-based content and navigation.
