Capacitor 9 Starts Here
Blog post from Ionic
Capacitor 9, the latest iteration of the open-source framework, is currently in its alpha testing phase, with significant updates such as making Cordova support optional, which previously was bundled by default in the runtime. This change is aimed at reducing native code and initialization work for non-Cordova apps, and testers are encouraged to provide feedback on its performance with different plugin setups. The update also enhances compatibility for Cordova plugins with Swift Package Manager dependencies, resolving previous issues in SPM-based Capacitor iOS projects. As Capacitor 9 development progresses, the team is also working on supporting iOS Scene UI, adapting to new device form factors, and integrating AI-assisted tools to enhance user experience. Users are invited to test the alpha version, report any issues, and stay updated as new developments unfold.
