Introducing the Infracost MCP server: the FinOps context engine for your AI tools and agents
Blog post from Infracost
Infracost’s hosted MCP server connects AI assistants, team chatbots, and autonomous agents to an organization’s FinOps, tagging, security, and cost-guardrail context, allowing them to identify policy violations, explain cloud-cost changes, trace issues to infrastructure code and pull requests, and draft proposed fixes. Available to Infracost Cloud customers at no extra cost, it supports MCP-compatible tools including Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT, and custom agents without requiring local installation. Engineers can use it to generate policy-compliant Terraform, FinOps teams can investigate cost spikes and determine whether increases were approved, and platform agents can prioritize investigated savings opportunities and open pull requests or tickets rather than changing cloud resources directly. The service uses the permissions of the connecting user or service account, while Infracost CI continues to enforce the same policies and approval thresholds on every pull request.
