CloudFormation Support is Here: Shift-Left Cost Visibility for AWS-Native Teams

Infracost has announced the integration of AWS CloudFormation support into Infracost Cloud, allowing teams to proactively estimate and manage cloud costs before deployment, similar to its existing support for Terraform. This development addresses the challenge faced by organizations using AWS CloudFormation, enabling them to reduce cloud waste and optimize expenses before code is merged. By analyzing CloudFormation templates directly, Infracost provides cost estimates in every pull request, enforces FinOps and tagging policies, and offers unified visibility across different infrastructure as code (IaC) frameworks. This integration was driven by community feedback, with extensive input from engineers on GitHub shaping its development. The CloudFormation support is currently available in early access, with future plans to expand CLI and IDE support by 2026.
