HashiCorp Boundary is an open-source, utility-based tool designed to simplify the process of granting and maintaining access to infrastructure, particularly for on-premises and cloud environments. The project was born out of user feedback from HashiCorp Vault users who requested a feature that could grant secure sessions to remote systems. With a focus on pragmatic, beautiful, and humble design principles, Boundary aims to provide an intuitive command-line interface and graphical user experience, while also leveraging the open-source values that help software projects improve and grow. The project has already made significant progress, with a working minimum viable product (MVP) in hand, and plans to ship additional features such as OpenID Connect authentication, transparent credential management with HashiCorp Vault integration, and dynamic host discovery for popular platforms.
